What you can do with this visa

  • participate in an eligible course of study in Australia
  • travel in and out of Australia
  • work up to 40 hours every 2-week period once your course starts

How long you can stay

This is a temporary visa to study up to 5 years. The type of course and its length will determine the length of stay.

Eligibility

  • Be enrolled in a course of study and provide evidence
  • Meet English language requirements (Exemptions applied)
  • Have adequate health insurance
  • Have enough money for your stay
  • Be a genuine temporary entrant (*)
  • Holding an eligible substantive visa if applying in Australia
  • Not have had a visa cancelled or a previous application refused while in Australia.
  • Meet Health and Character requirements
  • Pay your debts to the Australian government

For under 18 years of age, school student:

  • Be a certain age
  • Make welfare arrangements if you are under 18 years
  • Best interests of an applicant under 18.

(*) The Genuine Temporary Entrant requirements include:

  • Circumstances in home country/country of residence
  • Circumstances in Australia
  • Value of the course to the applicant
  • Immigration history
  • Intentions of guardians (if applicant is a minor)

8104 – Work restriction: 40 hours a fortnight

8201 – Maximum 3 months study

8202 – Meet course requirements

8203 – Limited study change

8204 – Study limitations

8501 – Maintain adequate health insurance

8516 – Continue to satisfy the criteria for the grant of the visa

8518 – Maintain adequate arrangements for your education

8532 – Maintaining welfare arrangements for minors

8533 – Inform provider of address

8534 – No further stay
