What is South West DAMA?
The South West Designated Area Migration Agreements (DAMA) is formed in December 2021. It is a formal migration agreement between the Australian Federal Government and the South West Development Commission in Western Australia.
The purpose is to help local employers fill labour shortages when suitably qualified Australian workers aren’t available. But unlike standard skilled migration, DAMA offers unique concessions. These include:
- Lower English language requirements
- Broader age limits
- Reduced work experience requirements
- A longer list of occupations, including semi-skilled roles
- A pathway to permanent residency (PR)
It is managed by DAR Shire of Dardanup who decides the visa regulations. Real-world skills and potential are preferred here instead of academic qualifications.
Regions Included in South West DAMA
This DAMA agreement applies specifically to 12 local government areas located within the South West Region of Western Australia. All known for their natural beauty, wine production, agriculture, and tourism sectors. These communities need reliable, skilled, and semi-skilled labour.
