Parent Visas Capped – 2019
In early 2019, the Government issued the following legislative instrument Migration (LIN 19/087: Granting of Contributory Parent Visas, Parent Visas and Other Family Visas in the 2018/2019 Financial Year) Instrument 2019 which commenced on 30 Jan 2019.
The cap on visas now restricts the number of Parent Visas that can be granted between July 2018 and June 2019 – the Migration Year. The combined maximum number of Contributory Parent visas that may be granted in the financial year 1 July 2018 to 30 June 2019 is 7,175. Contributory parent visa program generates around $50,000 in Government fees per applicant or somewhere in the vicinity of $358,750,000.00 in visa application fees.
Non-Contributory and Other Family Visas are respectively capped at 1500 and 500 for the current Migration Year.
The outcome of the new cap will simply lead to further processing delays and increased processing times.
