What you can do with this visa
- Own and manage a new or existing business in Australia, or to invest in Australia
- travel in and out of Australia for the duration of your visa (4 years)
- combine your eligible family members into your application with you to Australia
- seek permanent residence by applying for a subclass 888 visa after meeting the qualifying requirements within 2 to 4 years
How long you can stay
This is a provision visa that leads to Permanent Residence in 2 to 4 years or Permanent Residence at time of grant. All the Business and Investment Visas can lead you to Australian Citizenship.
Eligibility
There are four common Business Innovation and Investment Visa streams
- 188A- Business Innovation stream: for a person who wants to establish or develop, own and manage a new or existing business in Australia. You must have at least AUD $1,250,000 in assets that can be transferred to Australia after the grant of your visa.
888- Business Innovation stream
- Own and manage a business in Australia
- Have an annual business turnover of AUD 300,000
- Meet the assets and employees requirement
- Have followed Australian laws
- Functional English
- Meet the residence requirement
- Not have been involved in unacceptable business activities
- Have a realistic commitment to continuing business activities
2. 188B- Investor stream: for a person who is willing to invest at least AUD $2.5M in a State or Territory Government security and maintain business and investment activity in Australia.
- Be Nominated
- Own and manage business and personal assets and investments
- Have the right experience
- Must score at least 65 points on the points test
- Intend to intend to live in a specific State or Territory
- Under 55 years old at the time of the invitation
- Not have a history of involvement in unacceptable activities
- Have functional English or be asked to pay the 2nd instalment
- Meet Health and Character requirements
- Not have had a visa cancelled or a previous application refused while in Australia.
- Have no debt to the Australian Government
888- Investor stream
- Have held your designated investment
- Meet the residence requirement
- Not have been involved in unacceptable business or investment activities
- Have a realistic commitment to continuing business or investment activities
3. 188C- Significant Investor stream: for a person who is willing to invest at least $5M in complying investments in Australia and maintain investment activity in Australia.
- Have not held more than one Significant Investor Extension stream visa
- Continue to hold your complying significant investment
- Not have a history of involvement in unacceptable activities
- Have functional English
- Meet Health and Character requirements
- Not have had a visa cancelled or a previous application refused while in Australia.
- Have no debt to the Australian Government
888- Significant Investor stream
- Have held your complying investment or complying significant investment for the required period of time
- Meet the residence requirement
- Not have been involved in unacceptable business or investment activities
- Have a realistic commitment to continuing business or investment activities
4. 188E- Entrepreneur stream: you must be undertaking or propose to undertake a complying entrepreneur activity in Australia and have a genuine intention to undertake, and continue to undertake, the complying entrepreneur activity. You must also have been nominated by a State or Territory government agency to develop your concepts.

- Have a successful record of entrepreneurial activities
- Meet the residence requirement
- Not have been involved in unacceptable business or investment activities
- Have a realistic commitment to continuing business or investment activities
